How We Measure Your Maine Roof

Posted on June 5, 2019 · Posted in Roofing Education, Supporting Our Customers

When you’re ready to have your roof replaced or repaired, the first step for our team is to take a measurement of your roof.

We will also need to look at the roof pitch as well to determine the overall square footage and to provide a thorough estimate for the cost of your new roof. At Horch, we prefer to provide a detailed proposal concerning the scope of work, and an accurate measurement of your roof is the starting point for presenting you with an accurate proposal. The initial estimate is offered for free, so that you can make an informed decision regarding the process before proceeding with your new roof.

What Goes Into The Process to Measure a Roof?

Our team recommends that you don’t climb on your roof to do any type of measuring; it’s best to allow our fully trained and insured team to do this. Our first step is to assess the roof to take measurements and take pictures as necessary. Our team may use state of the art technology to measure the roof from the ground, or we may decide to access the roof by ladder to get a closer look.  Taking measurements of the valleys and peaks and noting any type of roof features such as chimneys and skylights are significant in determining the overall measurement of the roof. Depending on the scope of work and whether any visible damage is present, we may even need to go inside your home to inspect and measure the attic. Our team will do a complete roof inspection, if necessary, which allows us to know what’s happening at key areas.

What Happens After the Measurement?

After we measure your roof, we will create a scaled drawing of your roof to determine the roofing materials needed to complete the job. Our team will then use this information to prepare a proposal for you, outlining everything we believe your roof needs.

After completing the proposal, the Horch Roofing team will meet with you to go over all of the items included and discuss what your project will entail. We will offer a few different options, such as whether or not repairs are a possibility instead of replacement as well as your choices on the variety of roofing types and colors. Throughout the entire process, we’re here to answer your questions and help you to make the best decisions for your roof and your home.
