Warren, Maine – Horch Roofing has launched a scholarship program to invest in students pursuing a trades career. Owner Peter Horch wants students to recognize and pursue the opportunities that a career in the trades brings to them and hopes this program will encourage more to reach the next level. The scholarship is part of the company’s continued investment in Maine’s the skilled labor workforce.
“We believe it is important to encourage young men and women to study and seize opportunities for great careers within the trades,” says Horch Roofing Owner and President Peter Horch. “There are thousands of trade jobs that go unfilled because there are not enough skilled laborers, and those with trades education can get into great careers and earning opportunities very quickly. We hope this scholarship will help an individual find competence, satisfaction, enjoyment and a successful career in the trades, ideally at Horch Roofing. We are looking for a candidate with a proven passion for the trades and enthusiasm to pursue a career in skilled work.”
Skilled trades have a workforce shortage and struggle to hire applicants with necessary job skills. Federal labor statistics indicate only 8 percent of undergraduates are enrolled in vocationally oriented programs. According to GoodJobsData.org, the median wage for a non-bachelor’s degree holder was $55,000 in Maine in 2015, $24,000 higher than the state median income. Students pursuing trades course or certifications can springboard into a great career and Horch Roofing wants to help invest in their future through this scholarship.
Students graduating from high school to study skilled work at a college or trade school are eligible to apply as well as current college or trade school students who are focusing on a trade-related field. In addition to the $1,000 scholarship, the recipient will receive a Horch Roofing Carhartt jacket embroidered with the winner’s name.
Applicants have until May 1, 2018, to apply on the Horch Roofing website at https://horchroofing.com/horch-roofing-trade-school-scholarship/
The scholarship recipient will be notified no later than June 15.
